Legend: Marie Lu
Legend is the first novel in the dystopian series by author Marie Lu. The title was later accompanied by two other novels, Prodigy and Champion. Legend came out in 2001 and became a sensation after that. Out and out a dystopian fiction, the work features violence and exile in different forms.
What was once the western United States is now home to The Republic, a nation constantly at war with its neighbours. Because the state is under the control of the police, there is no civilian government at the centre. The story of the novel features two contrasting personalities – June Iparis and Day. Previous is born to some elite family and under all the careful supervision and comforts, June is supposed to be highly successful in the future. On the other hand, Day is born in slums to some poor parents and becomes one of the most wanted criminals in the country.
Their fortunes had no any plans to make them cross each other’s path but as they say, the fate hath it! June’s brother, Metias is murdered a day and as eventually had to be, Day becomes the prime convict (the suspect). Day is supposed to be so but the motives of this person aren’t as sinister as people think those might be.
And after the murder episode, the thrill of the novel begins to snare the readers. The game of hide and seek or cat and mice, you may phrase it the way you want, begins. Now the question for Day is the survival of himself and his family. He does everything possible to survive and also keep his family secure from the pressing departments. On the other hand, June is also seeking the opportunity to avenge her brother’s murder and she is mad for this. But the novel takes turns quickly and something of the different sort happens… what will you suppose it to be? A must read a thriller for teenagers as well as lovers of the suspense genre.
